If we have learned anything over the past week, it is that AT&T customers are not happy about this whole upgrade issue with the iPhone 3G to the new iPhone 3GS. Computer World thought that they would offer their opinion to this huge row.
Their articles starts off with all what is bad with AT&T, this includes their poor service and over-priced voice plans, but they then start to defend the network carrier.
AT&T have said that if you wish to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G S, then you will need to pay out the rest of your contact, so some will have to pay for 6 months of their monthly contract. So not only will you have to pay for your handset, you will also have to pay at least $200 on top maybe more.
Computer World says that they do not understand users problems, why should AT&T be expected to subsidize yet another new handset, the iPhone 3G that they already have is already subsidized. The fee for the handset and buying out of your contract is fair.
AT&T can do something to ease this pain though, and that is by reducing the cost of the expensive monthly tariff. A lot of the blame can also be passed on to Apple, as they seem to offer a new iPhone each year, so why do we only get an option for an 18-month or a two-year contract. This is also the case with the O2 network in the UK.
