If you have ever visited the BBC website, then you would know about their BBC iPlayer. Well it seems that the BBC are planning to offer an Apple iPhone iPlayer, which has only been made possible by using some of the new software features that will come with the new v3.0 OS for the iPhone.
We are all waiting anxiously for the new Apple iPhone 3.0 OS, but we do not know what the release time is, we just have to keep checking for an update every five minutes. Networkworld.com have reported that the managing editor of BBC Mobile, Jason DaPonte chatted away on the BBC Twitter feed over the weekend, and was answering a number of question about the iPlayer on mobile devices, such as the Apple iPhone.
Last week the BBC offered support for their iPlayer on a number of mobile devices, such as the Nokia E71 and a range of and Sony Ericsson cell phones, including the W705, W715 and W995. The reason that the BBC will now be able to offer iPlayer support on the iPhone is because the new 3.0 OS software update offers HTTP streaming. This will make it possible for the BBC to push downloads of TV shows on to the iPhone at much faster speeds.
