When Apple announced the launch of its new iPhone 3G S at its keynote at WWDC 2009, iPhone 3G owners went directly to the AT&T website to see what the process will be for them to upgrade to the new handset. However, this is when all the trouble started, as those who wished to upgrade early would have to pay a huge price for the new iPhone 3G S to get out of their current contract.

AT&T has done something that they do not normally do, and that is to listen to its customers. AT&T has since dropped the price of the iPhone 3G S for upgraders, meaning that for a limited time they will pay the same price as a new customers.

According to AppleInsider For those wishing to upgrade early, you will now pay just $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model. This is different to the $399 or $499, respectively that they would have had to pay before.

You can understand why AT&T wanted to charge so much and defended its price, all iPhone 3G users are not eligible for a new iPhone 3G S just yet, so AT&T felt that they could not cover all the price of the new handset. This did lead to widespread criticism, from those of have been loyal to AT&T, it is nice to see AT&T finally helping its customers out.
